Vík í Mýrdal

Vík, a trading post since 1887. The natural surroundings in Vík are exceptionally beautiful and the climate is relatively mild. The bird life is diverse and there are good conditions for bird watching. A vast variation of flowers and herbs grows to the east of Mt. Reynisfjall. The area is perfect for exploration and there are many lovely walking and hiking paths in Vík and the surrounding areas.
  • Hjörleifshöfði “Tuff island” (221 m) on the southwest of Mýrdalssandur.
  • Mýrdalsjökull Glacier 595 km2 in area, 1493 m. Glacial tongues creep down from it to the lowlands,
  • Dyrhólaey Sheer promontory (120 m). It rises towards the sea west of Reynishverfi, the southernmost point of the mainland and home to rich bird life.
