Herrafataverzlun Kormáks & Skjaldar - Menswear Store

Herrafataverzlun Kormáks & Skjaldar was founded in 1996 in Reykjavík by two friends, drummer Kormákur Geirharðsson and chef Skjöldur Sigurjónsson. As there were no investors to speak of they had to be quite sensible in spending the little capital they had. For them it meant collecting second hand clothing at reasonable prices and build an atmosphere in the store that complemented the clothes. The store offered a big variety of coats, suits, shirts & accessories.

In 2006 Kormákur & Skjöldur acquired Fulham Road based, Bertie Wooster of London. The complete stock and interiors were shipped to Iceland and a new location for Herrafataverzlun Kormáks & Skjaldar was found on the main shopping street at the heart of Reykjavík. Those who remember Bertie Wooster of London know what a massive upgrade it was in both the product quality and range. Overnight, the store had become practically English, filled with second hand Savile Row tailored suits, made by Henry Poole & Co., Tommy Nutter, Sir Hardy Amies and Gieves & Hawkes to name a few. In addition to those wonderfully made suits the store now had to offer traditional English fish-tail trousers, breeches, Harris tweed jackets, wool caps, fur felt hats etc.

Today, the store has moved entirely from second hand to new stock as there are plenty of exiting makers of quality and it brings more consistency to our range. Our customers are gentlemen of all ages and we aim to serve them all. That's why our range includes the aforementioned classic's as well as streetwear (more fashion based), formal wear, country clothing, accessories etc. We have a great ambition to fully dress customers for Hunting, fishing, horse riding etc.

The interiors were designed by Icelandic theatrical set designer and musician Axel Hallkell. The design includes a fully active old fashioned barber shop and despite a 320m² floorspace the atmosphere is warm and gentle. It's a glimpse of the old world that exists no more...
