Eyjafjallajökull

A capped volcanic cone (1666 m) with a crater 3-4 km wide, produced by numerous eruptions from the middle of the Ice Age to the Holocene. The glacier covers an area of 100 km2. During the eruption in 1821-23, the ice melted and caused a glacial burst which flooded the entire lowland between Eyjafjöll and Fljótshlíð.
