The Icelandic Wartime Museum

The war years were some of the most colourful in Iceland’s recent cultural history. Reyðarfjörður was occupied by British troops during World War II and war relics may be found in many different locations. The Icelandic Wartime Museum was established in Reyðarfjörður in 1995 to allow visitors to travel back in time to the days of the occupation. The inhabitants of Reyðarfjörður commemorate the occupation every year on July 1st.
