Hvítserkur East Iceland

Hvítserkur, which is situated next to the road to Loðmundarfjörður, is one of the most peculiar and beautiful mountains in Iceland. It is largely comprised of ignimbrite, which is light in colour. The side that faces are easily differentiated from the light-coloured ignimbrite and give them their unique appearance. The mountain is quite popular with hikers and it is easiest to hike into Gunnhildardalur valley and from there up along the mountain ridge. To descend it is easiest to follow the ridge to the northwest. The route is not recommended for those with a fear of heights.
