Þorgeirskirkja (The Church of Þorgeir)

Þorgeirskirkja (The church of Þorgeir) at Ljósavatn was erected to commemorate the adoption of Christianity in Iceland in the year 1000 and to honour the memory of Þorgeir, the Viking chieftain of the inhabitants at Ljósavatn, who was then a Law speaker. The bishop of Iceland, Karl Sigurbjörnsson, consecrated the church in the year 2000.
