Hvammstangi

Hvammstangi, the largest town in West Húnaþing, is situated on the eastern shore of Miðfjörður that stretches in from Húnaflói Bay. Fisheries and a variety of services for the surrounding area, and tourism, are the towns main economic activities. There is a museum of trade in the town that displays this history, and an exhibition and research department of the Icelandic Seal Centre. In the mountain above Hvammstangi there is a unique set of cliffs known as Káraborg. The top of Mt. Þrælsfell (895 m) offers a view into seven different counties.
