Ólafsvík

Ólafsvík was settled centuries ago because of good harbour facilities and rich offshore fishing grounds. The town grew rapidly when the harbour was greatly improved in the middle of the 20th century. An old warehouse, built in 1844, is now protected and houses a museum, with exhibits displaying working methods from times past, and a tourist information office.

There are many pleasant hiking trails in the Ólafsvík area.
